CHAPERONE BACKGROUND SCREENING POLICY

Every effort will be made to ensure that everyone who comes to an SCBC overnight event has a fun and safe stay; therefore, a yearly background check MUST be completed on EVERY ADULT 18 years or older WHO ATTENDS our SCBC Events. Please have every adult with your group complete the online Background Screening. Your registration will not be complete, nor your camp date secured, until all adults in your group have been screened and approved by the South Carolina Baptist Convention.

Purpose: To establish proper preventative measures to protect minors who attend South Carolina Baptist Convention (SCBC) overnight events ministerin to minors at facilities owned and operated by SCBC by conducting background screenings on all individuals in attendance who are over the age of 18 years.

Standard of Conduct: All SCBC workers, employees, volunteers, or independent contractors, whether paid, unpaid, full-time, or part-time, shall comply with this policy on background screening annually. Any actions contrary to this policy will be dealt with swiftly and may include disciplinary measures, up to and including termination, as well as legal ramifications when applicable.

Pre-screening Process:

1. All individuals over the age of 18 years attending an SCBC overnight event ministering to minors shall complete and sign a background screening form. A background screening shall be conducted prior to each individual's attendance at any SCBC overnight event ministering to minors. This screening shall include a residence trace connecting each individual's social security number to addresses and a search against a national database for sexual offenders.

2. Individuals 18 years of age or older shall order a background screening through an SCBC-approved online provider. A lit of approved online providers shall be maintained by the SCBC Human Resources office.  As a part of the process, the individual shall electronically sign a release for a background screening to be conducted and pay online all fees for the screening. 

3. The third party screening provider will conduct the background screening and send the results to SCBC for review prior to the individual attending an SCBC Overnight Event ministering to minors.

4. Individuals who have not  been subject to an SCBC-approved background screening in the past year shall not be permitted to participate in any SCBC Overnight Event ministering to minors until such a screening is conducted and reviewed by SCBC, utilizing the procedure outlined above.
