In the 1980's Southern Baptist realized a need to provide volunteer assistance in the event of natural disasters like hurricanes, tornados, floods and forest fires. Since 1992, South Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief has grown to 2,400 trained volunteers responding to 74 disasters. South Carolina volunteer units include rebuilding, child care, communications, feeding, recovery-chainsaw/debris recovery, shelter, mud-out and showers. These volunteers who come from South Carolina Baptist churches are prepared upon short-notice to respond in our state, and as requested, nationally and internationally. The ministry of South Carolina Disaster Relief extends to all South Carolinians.
