Of all the denominations, agencies and organizations within Southern Baptist life, only the local church is mentioned in the Bible. The New Testament mentions the church over 90 times – never once as a building or structure, and always as a cooperating body of Christians.
Empowering Kingdom Growth (EKG) is a South Carolina Baptist Convention emphasis that helps churches focus on God's vision for them and it helps the South Carolina Baptist Convention staff focus on serving churches as they intentionally focus on God's vision for them. The fruits of this emphasis are both measurable and immeasurable.
In the 1980's Southern Baptist realized a need to provide
volunteer assistance in the event of natural disasters like
hurricanes, tornados, floods and forest fires. Since 1992,
South Carolina Baptist Disaster Relief has grown to
2,400 trained volunteers responding to 74 disasters.
